The PlutoF platform allows for the online input, viewing and updating of scientific data. PlutoF is suitable for biosystematists, ecologists, biodiversity researchers and others to manage research data ranging from fieldwork to molecular analyses.
The desktop also includes a module for natural history collections, allowing the entry and management of data related to specimens in museum collections (including images, bibliographic references, condition assessments).
The data stored on the PlutoF platform can be made publicly available online. Examples of public web outputs include the Estonian biodiversity portal eBiodiversity, the global fungal identifier UNITE and the natural history portal "Kõrv loodusesse".
PlutoF data are also available on the portal of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and more than 400 000 Datacite data sets with unique digital IDs have been issued based on PlutoF data.
